Daniel Taylor was born on February 14, 1847 in Perry Township, Shelby County, Ohio. He may have been named for his mother's father, Daniel Branstiter. He was the son of Jacob Taylor and Sarah Branstiter. He married Margaret Jane Lutz on December 1, 1872 in McLean County, Illinois. Margaret was born on August 20, 1850 in Kentucky. Their children included: The family appeared in the 1880 census in Heyworth, McLean County, Illinois. The family consisted of Daniel age 33, Margaret J. age 29, Gracie G age five, Effa L. age two, and Alfred J. age three months. The children were born in Illinois. Daniel was working as a laborer. They appeared in the 1900 census in Amaqua Township in Boone County, Iowa. The household consisted of 53 year old Daniel who was a farm laborer, Margaret who was 48, and Daisy. Their nineteen year old daughter Daisy was born in September, 1886 in Illinois. Margaret had given birth to nine children, five of whom were living. At the time of his mother's death, Daniel was living in Pilot Mound, Iowa. Margaret died on August 20, 1915. He appeared in the 1920 census in Pilot Mound, Boone County, Iowa with his 29 year old daughter, Margaret Taylor. He was a farmer. Daniel died on March 10, 1930 and is buried with his wife in Pilot Mound Cemetery.
